LSO, Chorus To Present "Messiah"

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and Chorus will present the fourth annual performance of George Frideric Handel's "Messiah" at First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster. Performances will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.

The concert will be directed by LSO chorusmaster William Wright, and the performance will feature vocal soloists Jessica Beebe, soprano; Lauren Cook, alto; Aaron Sheehan, tenor; and Joseph Lattanzi, bass. The concert will last approximately two hours and 25 minutes, with one intermission.

Composed in just 24 days during the summer of 1741, "Messiah" premiered in Dublin in April 1742 to resounding success. The work is structured in three parts: Part I describes the advent and birth of Christ; Part II details Christ's life, resurrection, and ultimate victory; and Part III celebrates the redemption of humankind and the promise of eternal life.
