Luther Acres plans Book Fest

Luther Acres, a Luthercare community in Lititz, will host a Book Fest, a celebration of literature, community, and lifelong learning. The festival will take place on Saturday, March 29, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Luther Acres Towne Center, 250 St. Luke Drive, Lititz. It will be open to residents of the retirement community and the general public, and it is geared for people of all ages.

The Luther Acres Book Fest will feature more than 20 authors of both fiction and nonfiction, including a wide variety of genres. The authors will present book talks, in which they will speak about their books as well as a variety of other topics. The event will also feature book sales and signings with the authors, many of whom are local to Lancaster County.

The authors and their presentation topics include Kelly Barr, "My Journey to Writing Historical Romance"; Jane Clark, "The Importance of Collecting and Writing Ancestral and Family Stories"; Michael Dobson, "Managing Your Career as a Writer"; Don Helin, "From Army Regulations to Thrillers: A Writer's Journey"; Kathleen King, "Adding Fantasy to Historical Fiction"; Carolyn Kleinman, "How Local Events Inspired a Historical Fiction Book and a Murder Mystery"; Melissa Nordhoff, "My Characters Are Large and In Charge!" 

Also, Sandra Nork, presenting on "Publishing the Risk Series"; Sherry Ostroff, "Uncovering the Past: The Stories That History Forgot"; Connie Rife, "The Promise: A Memoir"; Dean Rust, "The Bluebird Monitoring Experience"; and Misty Simon, "Making Your Characters Come to Life."

The authors scheduled to participate also include Sandy Asher, Marilyn Blair, Lindsay Bandy, Vicky Burkholder, Holly Rutter Bush, Natalie Damschroder, Robert Frick, John Krill, Rosemary Krill, Victoria Smith, Donna Stoltzfus, and Cory Van Brookhoven.

The idea for the event came from a Luther Acres resident who is an author.

Giveaway baskets will be distributed at various points throughout the event. Light refreshments will be available to purchase, with all proceeds benefiting the Luthercare Caring Fund, which supports residents in need of benevolent care.
