MAHS to host guest speaker

The Millersville Area Historical Society (MAHS), in cooperation with the Millersville University (MU) History Department, invites the public to a free presentation tilted "Urban Alphabet" on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 9 a.m. in MU's Myers Auditorium at McComsey Hall, 43 E. Frederick St., Millersville. Parking is available on James Street across from the Lombardo Welcome Center and adjacent to McComsey Hall. To view the campus map, visit http://www.millersville.edu/directions.

The speaker will be Gregory Scott, local architect and historian and author of "Urban Legend," a publication about Lancaster architect C. Emlen Urban that was published in 2023. Scott's talk, which is titled after his latest book, "Urban Alphabet," to be published this November, will focus on the alphabet's content, featuring the A through Z architectural language of Urban and the various architectural details and styles that he revered. The colorfully illustrated book that includes photographs will be available to attendees at a book signing immediately after the presentation.

Scott is a member of the College of Fellows in the American Institute of Architects. He is partner emeritus and co-founder of RLPS Architects in Lancaster. He shares his expertise with the community through an ongoing architectural column and as an architectural correspondent for WGAL-TV8.  He has twice received the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County's Journalist and Educator Award.
