York County will host Make Music Day (MMD) for the third year in a row on Friday, June 21, joining more than 125 countries worldwide for the largest single-day music event since its beginnings in 1982 in France. Make Music Day, coordinated in the United States by the Make Music Day Foundation, is an inclusive DIY festival encouraging musicians, producers, promoters and music lovers to collaborate and organize in-person and online music performances in their communities.

In York County, MMD will be a collaborative event between the Cultural Alliance of York County and a variety of partners, including the York Music Teachers Association, the York Revolution, Weary Arts Group, Shine Music Foundation and the Appell Center for Performing Arts. The day's activities will be followed by the first-ever Make Music Night at the York Revolution home game at WellSpan Park. This year's events are offered in partnership with M&T Bank and the National Endowment for the Arts.

By participating in MMD, the Cultural Alliance and York County encourage every form of music making and will culminate the day with the second annual kazoo parade, led this year by the York Temple Guard.

In 2024, all Make Music Day events will be organized through the MMD Matchmaking website, where musicians can match with venues to host them, and venues can seek out programming. For the first time, musicians and organizations may also apply for funding to help facilitate their program or event.
