Martin To Talk At Meeting

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will host Dick Martin as guest speaker at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, at the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy. Refreshments will follow the program.

A Lancaster County native, Martin grew up near Manheim, graduated from Manheim Central High School, and served in the U.S. Navy. He now lives in Penryn. He has been writing, researching, and tracing genealogy for about 30 years. He has written articles for the Moravian Church archives and a periodic column for a newspaper covering local history.

Martin's presentation will feature the Cornwall Iron Furnace baron families, the Grubbs and the Colemans. These men were part of the large iron furnace operations during the 18th and 19th centuries in the area. Martin's books will be available for sale after the presentation.

The meeting is free and open to the public. The society building is open to the public every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is invited to stop by to do research and see the many displays of Mount Joy memorabilia. To learn more, visit http://www.mountjoyhistory.com.
