Master Gardeners to offer programs

The Penn State Extension Master Gardeners in Dauphin County have posted a Home Gardening Series. The presenter will be Master Gardener Kevin Kelly.

"The Four-Season Garden: A Photographic Tour" will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Kelly, who is passionate about photography as well as gardening, will offer a virtual tour of his suburban garden through the seasons. He will share what he has learned while creating his garden.

Kelly will present "The Secrets to Using Groundcovers and Filler Plants" on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Kelly will speak about matrix layer plants that tie the garden together, create green mulch and provide habitat for insects that support the food web. These plants are typically groundcovers or slightly larger filler plants. Kelly will talk about his favorite plants and how he has used them in his ecologically friendly garden. His method is an alternative to using wood mulch and fertilizer.
