Medical Heritage Museum Opens

The Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum recently opened its first public-facing location in 40 years at 410 N. Lime St., Lancaster. The museum opened with an event on Dec. 10.

Formerly known as the Edward Hand Medical Heritage Foundation and founded in 1982 by the Lancaster City and County Medical Society, the Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum has been a repository for medical history in the Lancaster County area. The organization's mission is to preserve and protect the rich medical heritage with special attention given to Lancaster County, and its vision is to uphold this mission through education, exhibition, and research.

The museum includes an iron lung from the 1950s polio epidemic and exhibitions on ophthalmology, dentistry, family medicine, and pandemics and prevention, as well as a hands-on section to learn the five skills all doctors must know and a community space to showcase artworks by local artists.

Admission will be free throughout December.
