Mennonite Children's Choir to close out concert series

The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) will present the final program in the Lancaster Church of the Brethren's 2023-24 Starlight Tea Concert Series with a performance on Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster.

The concert is part of the MCCL's spring concert series - "Sing 'Til the Power of the Lord Come Down!" - which celebrates the group's 25 years of singing. The choir will share several spirituals and songs from the gospel tradition, such as "He Is Marvelous" by Rosephanye Powell and "The Storm Is Passing Over" by Charles Albert Tindley, arranged by Barbara W. Baker. Music by Michael Praetorius, George Frideric Handel, John Rutter and Elaine Hagenberg, as well as songs in Hebrew, German and Latin, will also be included.

The MCCL is a community choral arts program serving more than 150 children and youths in kindergarten through grade 12. Only middle and high school-age children will perform at the upcoming concert.

Representing nearly 55 congregations, 45 schools and 12 denominations, singers develop a musical repertoire from around the world and across time while being equipped for a lifetime of service to the church and community. The mission of MCCL is training children and youths to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral singing.

Tea and cookies will be served following the concert. The free Starlight Tea series is supported by patrons and offerings received at concerts. For more information about the series, contact planning committee chair Giny Mackey at 717-201-8450.
