Mennonite Life announces new exhibit

Mennonite Life, 2215 Millstream Road, Lancaster, will offer an exhibit titled " 'They Went Out From Us': Zwingli and the Radical Reformation" in its library from Tuesday, May 6, to Friday, June 6. The exhibit is part of Mennonite Life's commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism.

Curated by Mennonite Life archivist and librarian Julia Wiker, the exhibit will feature three rare 16th-century books that describe encounters between Swiss theologian Ulrich Zwingli and the early Anabaptist movement. Mentioned in the books are Conrad Grebel, a founder of Anabaptism, and Christoph Froschauer, a printer from Zurich.

Zwingli was a major influence on Grebel and other key figures of the Radical Reformation, a religious movement that birthed Anabaptism in 1525. Zwingli, however, later split with the Anabaptists over theological differences and did not object when the government began persecuting Anabaptists.

The Mennonite Life library is open from Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The book exhibit is complimentary, but donations will be accepted.

Starting on May 6, "They Went Out From Us" will also be available as a virtual exhibit at http://www.mennonitelife.org/learn.
