Mentors sought for career exploration program

The second year of the Pequea Valley (PV) First Choice Discovery Program will soon begin. This work-based learning program offers every PV sophomore the opportunity to explore his or her first-choice career and receive mentoring. The program matches professionals with the students and facilitates activities throughout the course of the year. Last year, more than 50 mentors participated.

The program will host an open house at PV High School, 4033 E. Newport Road, Kinzers, on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Professionals who choose to become mentors will be required to attend a training session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on either Thursday, Oct. 5, or Thursday, Oct. 12.

First Choice Discovery Program activities and events will include skills and team-building on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.; resumes and interviewing on Friday, Dec. 15, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; small group connection on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, with the times to be announced; career pathways and fair on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.; job shadowing on Friday, March 22; next steps on Friday, April 19, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; and graduation on Monday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mentors will be provided with a facilitator's guide to guide discussion during each session.
