MLK Day Of Service Planned

Crispus Attucks York (CAY) will host its 40th annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 17. The event will take place virtually via Zoom beginning at 9:45 a.m. and will highlight a panel of youths speaking on the theme "A Time to Break Silence," inspired by the name of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s April 4, 1967, speech. Featured panelists will include Edha Gupta, Christina Ellis, Olivia Pituch, and Renee Ellis, all members of the Panther Anti-Racist Union, a youth organization focused on spreading awareness of issues of racism and social injustice within the Central York School District and beyond. The event will be moderated by Michael Jefferson, who is CAY's Employment & Training Center director and a member of the Confronting Racism Coalition.

The Panther Anti-Racist Union and Luis Duran, a graduate of the Crispus Attucks Charter School, will also be recognized for continuing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy through their service in the York community with the Living the Dream award.

Members of the public can join the Zoom meeting through the meeting ID of 478 270 9729. The event will also be livestreamed through Facebook.

Free grab-and-go breakfasts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for all members of the community. The breakfasts will be available for pickup at 605 S. Duke St. from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 17.

CAY encourages anyone who participates in a service project to wear a mask, social distance, and follow all safety protocols.
