A self-guided walking tour of Mount Gretna homes will take place on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The tour will offer an exclusive look inside homes ranging from weekend cottages to year-round homes. There will be eight homes on the tour, as well as two porches and three historic buildings.

Featured on the tour this year is a 1930s-inspired retreat lovingly restored by the owners. It features vintage appliances, framed linoleum remnants and a wraparound porch adorned with traditional Chinese lanterns.

Another highlight is a home that has been transformed into a spacious, light-filled retreat with a music library that includes a handcrafted harpsichord. The home, which the owners purchased in 1992, has an Asian-style porch and dramatic master bedroom window.

A cottage on the tour, built in 1892, blends historic details like wavy glass windows and beadboard walls with modern updates. Current owners have preserved its character while adding personal touches, including family heirlooms and local artwork.

On the day of the tour, tickets will be sold outside the Mount Gretna Post Office, 101 Princeton Ave., and at the Hall of Philosophy at 212 Gettysburg Ave.

Tickets can be redeemed starting at 10 a.m. on the day of the tour in exchange for a map featuring write-ups on each home and a wristband granting entry to the homes. Tickets are limited and may sell out on the day of the tour.
