Mount Joy Will Mark National Night Out

The community is invited when Mount Joy celebrates National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 2. The festivities will be hosted by Voyage Mount Joy and will take place along Delta Street, off Main Street, from 6 to 8 p.m.

"This is going to be a fun family night," said Allory Melhorn, event chair. "We're going to have a bounce house for the kids, live music from Adam Blessing, several food trucks and a fire truck and police cruiser for the kids to check out and explore." He added that participants will have the opportunity to talk with first responders to learn more about what they do and what services they offer to the community. The event will feature food from Two Cousins Pizza, Dutch Country Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels and the Rotary Fry Wagon. Balloon artistry will be presented by Majik Andrew Entertainment.

This is the first year Voyage Mount Joy is hosting the event, Melhorn noted. "We are an organization designed to market Mount Joy and bring people into town," he stated. "The National Night Out is a neat event to bring the community together and learn more about some of the services in the borough."

National Night Out is nationwide community-building campaign to promote police-community partnerships. It was established in 1984 with a mission to strengthen neighborhood camaraderie. Communities in every state as well as U.S. territories and military bases participate annually in the event.

Melhorn encourages everyone to check out the activities at National Night Out. "We know from doing research with Voyage Mount Joy that people are looking for things to do with their families," he said. "This is a great opportunity to get out for a free event, come together to meet one another, hang out and just enjoy Mount Joy."
