Mowday to Publish Books, Appear in Documentaries

Author Bruce E. Mowday, who has written extensively on the American Revolution and Civil War, will concentrate on books and documentaries involving the history of the United States in the coming year.

Mowday was interviewed for two documentaries on the subject of preserving the memory of the heroic deeds of American soldiers during the American Revolution's Battle of Brandywine, as well as the preservation of actual battlefield land. He was interviewed by Darley Newman, an Emmy Award-nominated host, for her show "Travels With Darley" on the field where the Marquis Lafayette was wounded on Sept. 11, 1777. The show is expected to be aired on PBS stations in the next several months. He was also interviewed by filmmaker Mary Armstrong of Space Cats Films on a number of occasions for her documentary on Lafayette and the need to preserve Brandywine battlefield. Armstrong expects to debut her film in mid-2026.

Mowday is also working with Lionsgate/Blackfin on a documentary on his latest book, "A Killer at the Door." The book details the escape of murderer Danilo Davalcante from Chester County prison.

For 2026 and the country's 250th celebration, Mowday is working with Kenneth Serfass, a General Grant expert, on a book on Gettysburg and Vicksburg in the Civil War. The book is expected to be released this spring. Serfass and Mowday will also offer a presentation on the book to historical organizations and other groups. Organizations may email mowday@mowday.com.

Mowday is working on two other book projects in 2026. One book is on a World War II chaplain who wrote a diary during his captivity during the Bataan Death March. Mowday is also collaborating with artist Karl J. Kuerner on a book dealing with Christmas celebrations in the Brandywine region.

Mowday has authored more than 25 books, including two books on Lafayette, "Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero" and "Lafayette: America's Young Hero and Guest." Mowday also authored a full-length book on Brandywine, "September 11, 1777: Washington's Defeat at Brandywine Dooms Philadelphia." He has appeared on numerous television and radio shows and is a frequent speaker to various civic and historical groups.

Mowday served as the chair of the American Friends of Lafayette's Bicentennial Brandywine Committee and earned the "1776-2026 DAR American 250! Commendation" from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He is also a member of Chester County's 250th Commission.
