MTHS to present program about blacksmithing

The Manheim Township Historical Society (MTHS) will present "The History of Blacksmithing" by guest speaker Anrew Reist on Saturday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at the Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster.

Reist will discuss the tools used to shape metal and the types of metal and ironwork that are produced. A live demonstration will follow the talk.

Reist is a blacksmith, art teacher, anvil producer and collector who became interested in the historic craft when he was 12 years old. Reist began apprenticing with a well-known blacksmith, who became a lifelong friend. His insight for design came from researching Lancaster County ironwork in books and at local museums.

As a high school sophomore in 2015, Reist started Oak Lawn Blacksmith Shop. Through apprenticeships and his degree from Tennessee Tech University, he gained knowledge and worked with world-renowned artists.

All are welcome to the program. Reservations are not required. For more information, including how to access the program that will be livestreamed on Zoom, contact mthistoricalsociety@gmail.com or 717-569-6638.
