Museum to host fall programs and events

The Winters Heritage House Museum in Elizabethtown will host a variety of programs and workshops for both children and adults this fall.

For children, Story Hour will be held on Fridays, Oct. 13, Nov. 3 and Dec. 15, and then every second Friday through May 2024. Two sessions are offered: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. Children will travel back in time and encounter local history through stories, songs and a craft or activity. Children will hear stories about traditions or events from long ago. A snack is included. A fee will be charged for the whole program or per session. Story Hour is recommended for children ages 3 to 6 but siblings are also welcome to join.

In addition, Miss Terry and the Heritage House Craft Team will lead a Kids Craft Club every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. through Dec. 6, with the exception of Nov. 22. This fall's focus will be holiday decorations to adorn the historic log cabins. The program is children ages 5 to 13. There will be a fee charged for the entire program or per session.

For adults, workshop instructor Barbara Plunkett will guide participants on how to create a unique seasonal wreath. Creating a Thanksgiving Wreath will be featured on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., and a Holiday Wreath workshop will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. A registration fee will be charged for each workshop.

Heritage House History Hours will take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be offered. Attendees will investigate, analyze and discuss different historical figures, times and events. On Nov. 1, the topic will be "Newspaper Headlines." "Submarines" will be the topic on Dec. 6.

Winters Heritage House Museum is located at 47 E. High St. (one-half block from the town square) in Elizabethtown. Two of the buildings included in the museum property date to the founding of the town.

The museum is a community project run mostly by volunteers and provides Elizabethtown with educational programs, the preservation of local history as well as a genealogy research library. There is free parking in the lot behind 33 E. High St. Museum hours are generally on Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
