Mushroom Festival To Return To Town Center

The Mushroom Festival Board, a nonprofit organization, recently announced that the 37th Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is heading back to State Street in 2022. The two-day event has been held for nearly 40 years and is designed to celebrate everything mushrooms, including Kennett Square, the Mushroom Capital of the World; mushroom farming; and the community. The festival will take place on State Street on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festival was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Last year, while still facing logistical challenges and uncertainty, organizers held the festival, but in a different location in Kennett Square.

Activities like the amateur mushroom eating and mushroom cooking contests will be back this year, along with mushroom cooking demonstrations, the mushroom growers tent, painted mushrooms, children's rides, a car show and more. From traditional dishes like mushroom soup to powdered mushrooms in coffees and teas, jerky, dried snacks and more, mushrooms will be on full display at this year's festival.

The mission of the Mushroom Festival is to promote the mushroom, educate consumers about the health benefits of mushrooms and promote tourism in southern Chester County, all while financially supporting local and regional charities through a grant process.
