Navy veteran to speak

The Military Oral History Club of Lancaster County will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2435, 401 Manor St., Columbia. The speaker will be Edward Czechowski.

At the age of 17, Czechowski enlisted in the U.S. Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was assigned to the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Saufley, which saw a lot of action in the Pacific, including at Guadalcanal, Guam, Saipan, and Tinian. Czechowski and his fellow sailors had many close calls on the destroyer. Czechowski is now 100 years old.

The Military Oral History Club meets on the last Tuesday of each month. The meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 717-319-3430.
