Nguyen Wins Poetry Contest

South Central PaARTners at Millersville University announced that Lily Nguyen, a senior at Lancaster Country Day School, won the regional contest for Poetry Out Loud. Nguyen competed against five other students across a three-county region that encompasses Berks, Lancaster, and Schuylkill counties and proceeded to the state finals.

Nguyen recited three poems, submitted digitally due to COVID-19. They were "Abandoned Farmhouse" by Ted Kooser, "An Anthology of Rain" by Phillis Levin, and "Tall Ambrosia" by Henry David Thoreau. Students' video entries were judged by a panel of poets and other creative people.
