November Event Calendar Posted

Adamstown Area Library, 110 W. Market St., Adamstown, will offer a variety of in-person and virtual programs for people of all ages. The library offers a new Library of Things that allows anyone to borrow a variety of items besides books.

The library will participate in ExtraGive on Friday, Nov. 18, and will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. with refreshments, giveaways, games, and more.

The "Read 'em Up and Eat 'em Up" Autumn Reading Program will run through Wednesday, Nov. 30, for children age 12 and under. Details are available at the library.

The Friends Book Sale will be held on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library, with evening hours until 7 p.m. on Nov. 15. Weekly sales will end Nov. 15 and begin again in 2023.

Young At Heart, for people age 60 and up, will be sponsored by REAL Life Community Services on Wednesdays, Nov. 2 and 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. For details, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Story time programs will include "Twinkling Stars" Baby Story Time on Thursdays for children from birth to age 2 at 10 a.m., Budding Bookworms Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays for children ages 3 to 6 at 10 a.m., and "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time for children ages 2 to 3 on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Mandy Kolb Lyons, an Early Intervention program specialist, will visit the Baby and Toddler Story times on Nov. 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. She will be available to answer questions from parents.

Tech Q & A, offering one-to-one help with devices, will be offered on Nov. 2 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Technology help and software training is also available at other times by appointment.

A job fair will take place on Friday, Nov. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. Recruiters from local companies will share information about current job openings.

Visitors of all ages are invited to cast a vote on which is better - cats or dogs - from Monday, Nov. 7, through Saturday, Nov. 12.

Lancaster County Office of Aging's PA MEDI program assists older adults with Medicare/Medicaid and health insurance questions. On Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., volunteer counselors from PA MEDI will meet individually with beneficiaries who already have Medicare to go over their Medicare plans by appointment only Appointments take about one hour per person and are free of charge. To make an appointment, call PA MEDI's office at 717-299-7979 and ask for the library's location.

Drop-In STEAM will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. for Lego Club and Process Art Party: Ocean Theme. Attendees will explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through games, activities, and projects with Miss Jess. An adult is required to accompany children under age 8.

Other activities are as follows: American Girl bag pickup on Nov. 7, while supplies last; the Genealogy Group on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m.; Daytime Discoverers at Middle Creek Wildlife Center on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.; Lego activity bag pickup for children ages 5 to 12 on Nov. 14, while supplies last, with one packet per family; and the free Teen Take-and-Make packet pickup on Monday, Nov. 21, while supplies last.

Almost Perfect Crimes, for teens and adults, will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m. Participants will initially receive the Zoom link and the mini murder mystery story. Additional clues and evidence will be revealed during the meeting.

Tree Lighting with Santa will take place on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the Adamstown Grove. Holiday stories will be read prior to Santa's arrival at 6 p.m.

MJWK (Miss Jess Wants to Know) will be held during November with a "Candy Wars" theme. Teens are asked to stop in the young adult and teen graphic novel book section of the library for the question of the month and to cast a vote for their favorite. Results will be posted on the Facebook page at the end of the month.

Children who visit the library can stop in anytime during November to add a fall leaf to the Story Corner Tree with something they are thankful for written on it.

The library will sponsor a Mitten and Accessory Tree from Nov. 14 through Friday, Dec. 9. Visitors are asked to bring in donations of new, unwrapped mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, and more to be distributed to local families and children in need.

A Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots collection box will be placed near the circulation desk from Nov. 14 to Tuesday, Dec. 13. Patrons are encouraged to drop off donations of new, unwrapped gifts for local children in need.
