Open House Set At New Fire Station

Manheim Township Fire Rescue (MTFR) will host an open house community event at its new fire station, located at 600 Richmond Drive, Lancaster. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The free, family-friendly event will feature tours of the new facility, a special appearance from Sparky the Fire Dog, and free ice cream for all attendees. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and some guest speakers, including the Manheim Township commissioners, township manager Rick Kane, and Manheim Township Fire Rescue Chief Scott Little.

In 2021, after planning by Kane, who was then the fire chief, the Manheim Township Board of Commissioners approved a fourth fire station to serve the residents of Manheim Township. The plan was to use vacant commercial space for the new station, explained Kane.

The new fire station, which covers the northwest/Richmond Square area of Manheim Township, is key to the long-range planning for fire service delivery within the municipality. It went into service in 2022. Station 202 will serve as the main headquarters for around-the-clock emergency response from one single engine and shifts of three firefighter units.
