The Drumore Friends Meeting House, 1470 Susquehannock Drive, Drumore, will be the site of open houses on Saturdays, July 18, Aug. 15, and Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On July 18, doors will open at 10 a.m. so that visitors may view the historic exhibits. A ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. to install and dedicate a plaque from the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County. The plaque recognizes the value of the Drumore Friends' stories to Lancaster County's legacy.

The event will include the premiere of a new 10-minute documentary about the meetinghouse. The film, "A Historic Gem Hiding in Plain Sight," describes the Drumore Friends' contributions to local life as well as members' roles in the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and the early days of Millersville University. Penn State University professor emeritus Douglas Miller will speak about his research for the book "Drumore Quakers' Precious Habitation," which he wrote to celebrate the Drumore Quakers' 200th anniversary in 2016.

The Aug. 15 open house will feature amateur storyteller and Drumore Friends descendant Elizabeth Dixon, who will embody the role of Sarah Eva "Sallie" Bolton Pyle in presentations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pyle was in the 1855 inaugural class at the Lancaster County Normal School, which later became Millersville University. The faculty invited her to remain at the school as an instructor, and she did so for three years. She wrote weekly to her mother, Mary Ann Brosius Bolton, and 60 of the letters are in the Millersville University archives. Pyle's character will be brought to life through her words, which cover topics such as daily life at school, social concerns of the day, and Pyle's romantic interests.

On Sept. 19, the meetinghouse will transform into an art gallery for the "Ancestors and Descendants Art Show." The display will feature both traditional and contemporary works of art, all of which were created by members of the Drumore Friends and their descendants. The items will include paintings, sketches, pottery, original linocut prints and etchings, quilts, woodworking, handmade books, photography, silk scarves, and historical pewter objects. An audio station will offer recordings of literary material.
