Organ Dedication Concert Planned

Arts on the Square, a series of music and fine arts events, will present internationally known virtuoso organist Ken Cowan in the dedicatory concert of the J. Nedra Schilling Organ, Orgues Letourneau Opus 136, on Friday, Feb. 25. The event will take place at Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg, at 7:30 p.m.

Cowan will play works by Bach, Saint-Saëns, Wagner and Widor, as well as the world premiere of "Michelangelo Fantasy" by central Pennsylvania composer Scott H. Eggert, professor emeritus of music at Lebanon Valley College. Eggert's piece was inspired by the reading of the poetry of Italian Renaissance artist and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti.

The organ, built in 2020 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, by Orgues Letourneau Ltd., has four keyboards and 83 ranks of pipes in a case high in a gallery at the rear of the sanctuary. The organ is named for the late J. Nedra Schilling, a longtime member of the church and choir and a community philanthropist.

Cowan maintains a rigorous performing schedule, which takes him to major concert venues and churches in America, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained in advance at http://www.marketsquarechurch.org/concerts. Seating is limited, and masking is required.

Parking will be provided by the church in the adjacent Market Square Garage. The church is accessible to people with disabilities.
