Original Play Slated To Open

Sankofa African American Theatre Company and Gamut Theatre will present a Black History celebration, "Echoes of Voices of the Eighth." The original production written by Sharia Benn will run from Friday, Feb. 11, through Sunday, Feb. 20. The curtain will rise at Gamut Theatre, 15 N. Fourth St., Harrisburg, at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays.

"Echoes of Voices of the Eighth" is a journey that transcends time to connect two African American teens from the same Harrisburg neighborhood. The play is inspired by true stories of history-makers who lived between 1850 and 1920 in the rich and vibrant Old Eighth Ward, which was torn down to make way for the Capitol Complex of today. This story celebrates the contributions of African Americans who lived in the Old Eighth Ward.
