PABA awards scholarships

Parkesburg Area Business Association (PABA) has awarded this year's PABA Scholarship Awards. Yony Gonzales-Mata was chosen from Octorara Area Junior-Senior High School, and Mason Lambert was selected from The Parkesburg POINT

At Octorara, Yony participated in soccer, track and field, the student forum, Student Council, the marching band and e-sports. Last winter, he helped his church distribute gifts to people in need. He is also a Boy Scout and won the coveted Eagle Scout Award. As a Scout he has participated in roadside cleanups. He has also done volunteer work with the Student Council and for the Leo Club. He plans to pursue a career in computer science.

Mason is attending the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to become an HVAC technician. He also plans to take classes in business administration with a goal of becoming a business owner and real estate agent. Mason, who played varsity basketball at Octorara, attended programs at The POINT, some of which gave him opportunities to coach and develop younger basketball players. He also helped build The POINT's art room, which was dedicated to his neighbor, Alexis "Lexi" Keasley, after she passed away. This past summer, he served on a Native American reservation in Montana while on service trip with The POINT.
