"Parables of Jesus" tells stories from the Bible

"'Parables of Jesus' is a high-energy and humorous telling of the stories that Jesus told to His followers," said Ashlee Heyward, team member, describing Piercing Word's original production. "The piece gives the audience a fresh and everyday perspective of these stories told over 2,000 years ago, and we tell them word for word from the English Standard Version Bible. The Scripture is our script."

"Parables of Jesus" will be performed at the Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim, at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 30, and at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 1.

The stories are told with an African inspiration. "The use of African-inspired instruments and movement helps remind viewers of how beautifully diverse the church is," Heyward explained. "In a season where we are seeing so much division and brokenness in our country when it comes to issues of race, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate and demonstrate our unity in Christ."

The show will include stories of the sheep and shepherd, the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son, among others. "This show is both humorous and poignant and will leave you thinking deeply about the truths presented in a fresh way," Heyward shared. "It's a fun show that is perfect for the whole family."

"Parables of Jesus" invites audience members to watch as Jesus helps His followers understand the nature of the Kingdom of God and the value of following Him. "'Parables of Jesus' is woven together flawlessly," shared Jeff Gibelius, pastor of Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle. "It has a fascinating African production style to it that encourages viewing familiar stories in a new light."

Piercing Word is a nonprofit ministry based in Lancaster with a mission "to ignite passion for the Word of God in the heart of the church." The organization has been performing Scripture in dramatic and musical presentations, word-for-word from the Bible, since 2007.
