"I love Halloween and I love decorating, and I thought, 'How fun would it be to drive (around) and know where to go to see really good displays?" said Cate Westbrook, the administrator of the Daily Parkesburg Facebook group, when describing her idea to create a neighborhood map of Halloween displays. "It's fun to see people get excited about a holiday and decorating."

Westbrook announced the idea to create the map on the Facebook page and invited local residents who have Halloween displays at their homes to provide their addresses. She received assistance from Chuck Walcott, a page moderator.

The current map that Westbrook has created, which can be found on the Facebook page, features Haloween display locations that are highlighted in yellow. As more people provide their addresses, she will update the map as Halloween approaches.

"There are two (sites) on Sixth Avenue, one on Woodland Avenue outside the Borough, one on Second Street and one on East Second. I will update the map to add more people," noted Westbrook. "The goal is to get people excited about it and want to participate."

She likened the idea to when families drive around their local neighborhoods to view Christmas lights. "There are a couple of houses in the borough that really do a fantastic (Halloween) display. I thought it would be fun to know of other houses in the area and look at their displays," said Westbrook.

Westbrook began the Daily Parkesburg Facebook group in 2021 as a way to promote events and businesses in the area. "The goal of the page was finding things to do in the area and looking for small businesses to shop at and to (offer) a place where local businesses could advertise and for the Parkesburg community to list local events," she said. "It has taken on its own life and people keep it going. It's a great resource about what is going on in the area."

Local residents are invited to join the Daily Parkesburg group for more information and to access the Halloween decorations map. It is not necessary to be a resident of Parkesburg to join.
