Parkesburg UMC to offer children's Bible club

Building on the success of its summertime vacation Bible school (VBS), Parkesburg United Methodist Church (UMC) will hold a Vacation Bible Club (VBC) that will meet weekly at the church.

VBC will be held on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning on Sept. 28 for children ages 5 to 12. The program will be led by Ashley Radcliff, the church's music director.

Children are invited to attend VBC while their parents take part in the church's adult Bible study led by pastor Mark Beideman, which will take place at the same time. "We're going to do the same things that we did during VBS - crafts, games, music and Bible study," Radcliff noted.

The theme of VBC will be "Knights of North Castle," and the program will revolve around knights and dragons. According to the curriculum, North Castle is a hidden frozen land, where its knights are on a quest to find the king's armor. Through Bible stories, children will be able to learn about the components of God's protective "armor," such as truth, peace, faith and salvation, and they will learn that the armor of God always protects them.

"('Knights of North Castle') was a vacation Bible school curriculum that we had in 2020. Because of the pandemic, we did not get to use it," Radcliff noted. "We will use it now and go through that curriculum."

Radcliff emphasized that VBC is open to all youngsters. It is not necessary to be a congregation member at Parkesburg UMC to attend. It is also not mandatory for parents to attend the Bible study.
