Percussive Dance Concert Planned

International percussive dance company Step Afrika! will perform in Clair Hall at the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center, 60 W. Cottage Ave., on the Millersville University (MU) campus on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m.

Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, traditional West and South African dances, and an array of contemporary dance and art forms. The performances integrate songs, storytelling, humor, and audience participation.

Infamous Unstoppables, the step troupe based at Crispus Attucks Community Center, will present a free warmup performance before the show. In 2013, under the leadership of Derek Smith, the Infamous Unstoppables was founded to revive the African American traditions of stepping, dance, and drumming. The Infamous Unstoppables is an award-winning program that provides youths opportunities to embrace and better understand arts and culture while uplifting the Lancaster community and empowering children.

The show is open to the public, and free parking is available on the MU campus. ASL interpretation will be available.
