Planting event scheduled

The Marietta Shade Tree Commission (MSTC) has been given 325 trees and shrubs through the Chesapeake Bay Foundation from the Keystone Ten Million Trees Partnership. On Marietta Day, Saturday, May 20, the MSTC will give them away; planting instructions will be provided.

Any plants that are left will be planted on the Northwest River Trail on Saturday, May 27. Volunteers are needed and should come prepared with shovels and wear protective clothing. They should meet at 10 a.m. at the Chestnut Street railroad crossing on Front Street in Marietta. The rain date is the following Saturday, June 3.

The MSTC is now recognized as part of the Keystone Ten Million Trees Partnership, which has the goal of planting 10 million trees throughout the state by 2030.

In addition to this tree planting, volunteers cut 150 trees free of English ivy during the spring.
