Playhouse To Perform "Rock Of Ages"

The Hershey Area Playhouse, 830 Cherry Drive, has announced that "Rock of Ages" will be its first in-person show since the pandemic began. The show will be performed on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 2 p.m. from Thursday, July 22, to Sunday, Aug. 1.

This Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features music of the '80s, including songs by Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, and Twisted Sister. A rock band is present on stage throughout the production. The show centers on one of the Sunset Strip's last legendary venues, which is threatened when a group of developers arrives into town with plans to build a strip mall.

"Rocks of Ages" is directed by Jasmine Bucher, recipient of a 2018 Tony Award Honorable Mention for Excellence in Theatre Education. With a 100% volunteer cast and production team, this show features a cast of 20 performers ranging in age from 18 to nearly 60. The cast includes both Hershey Area Playhouse regulars and new performers. Rehearsals blended digital vocal and characterization rehearsals in 2020 with live rehearsals in 2021. The delay of one year enabled the playhouse to receive the most up-to-date script, which includes a new song.

"Rock of Ages" is for mature audiences only and includes adult language. Current CDC and local guidelines will be followed. For more information or tickets, visit http://www.hersheyareaplayhouse.com. Information is also available by calling 717-533-8525.
