Presentation to focus on John Adams

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will host Robert Frick as the guest speaker at its monthly meeting to be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Frick, retired superintendent of the Lampeter-Strasburg School District, will speak about John Adams, an American statesman, attorney, diplomat, writer, and Founding Father who served as the second president of the United States from 1797 to 1801. A Harvard-educated lawyer, Adams became identified with the patriot cause early on; a delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses, he led the movement for independence. During the Revolutionary War, he served in France and Holland in diplomatic roles, and he helped to negotiate the treaty of peace. Frick will speak on Adams' role and legacy in American history.

Refreshments will be available following the program.

The society building is open to the public every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors may stop by to do research and see the many displays of Mount Joy memorabilia. For more information, visit http://www.mountjoyhistory.com.
