Presentation to focus on MCC

The Millersville Area Historical Society (MAHS) will host a slideshow presentation on the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and World War II when it meets at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. The gathering will take place in the Millersville Borough administration and police building, 100 Municipal Drive. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and lock at 9:15 a.m.

The presenter will be Kenneth Sensenig, who worked with MCC for 35 years both domestically and internationally. His talk is titled "From Lancaster County to the World: Mennonite Central Committee and World War II." It will focus on the challenges World War II presented to the largely rural Mennonite populations in Lancaster County and across the country, the quick response by MCC volunteers in Europe that enabled them to unveil the depravations and devastation of the war, and how the war forced MCC to mature. Twenty years old at the outset of the war, the Akron-based organization created a bridge between the U.S. and Europe to distribute care packages, clothing, and canned meat.

A question-and-answer session will close the meeting.

Sensenig, who is newly retired, served MCC as a volunteer teacher in Africa for six years and as a public relations specialist for several decades. During that time, he also had the opportunity to visit many countries, including North Korea, Sudan, and Iraq. An Ephrata resident, he earned degrees in education from Penn State University, Millersville University, and Temple University.

Although admission is free, donations will be accepted. For more details, contact Phil Gerber at 717-872-8837 before noon or at pge8507@aol.com.
