Produce vouchers available to seniors

The York County Area Agency on Aging, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, will distribute fruit and vegetable vouchers to qualifying seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Eligible seniors can receive vouchers worth $50 to buy fresh fruit and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania.

There are income limits to be eligible for the vouchers. Household annual income limits are $26,973 per year or $2,248 per month for one person; $36,482 per year or $3,040 per month for two people; and $45,991 per year or $3,833 per month for three people.

Qualifying seniors must be York County residents and be age 60 by Sunday, Dec. 31. Recipients can only receive the vouchers once in the 2023 program year. Seniors living in a nursing home, personal care home, or any residential facility where meals are provided are ineligible to receive vouchers. Seniors must show proof of age and residency.

Vouchers will be distributed from Thursday, June 1, to Saturday, Sept. 30, at various locations throughout York County. No vouchers will be mailed. Vouchers will be redeemable at participating Pennsylvania farmers markets from June 1 through Thursday, Nov. 30.

Proxy forms are available for anyone who physically cannot come to the locations. Identification for the eligible person and proxy are required. Proxy forms can be obtained at http://www.ycaaa.org, at any participating senior center, and at the York County Area Agency on Aging, 2401 Pleasant Valley Road, York.
