Program to feature railroad songs and stories

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will host a program titled "Songs and Stories of Old Railroad Days" at its meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17, at the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy.

Dressed in the fashion of an old-time railroader, Matthew Dodd will share songs and stories that tell a history of the railroads in America. He will share about the track-laying gangs, engineers, famous trains, train wrecks, railroad lore, and tell jokes. Dodd will sing and play the acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo, and mandolin. Refreshments will follow the program.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

The society building is open every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Community members may conduct research and view Mount Joy memorabilia.
