Program to Focus on 18th-Century Sewing

Lancaster Area Sewing Network (LASN) will present "A Stitch in Time: Hand-sewing in the 18th Century" by Ruth Konrad on Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Friends Meeting House, 110 Tulane Terrace, Lancaster.

Konrad will speak on clothing construction in the 18th century and lead participants through trying out stitches that were used then and are still valuable. Participants should bring a needle, thread of any color, scissors, and a fat quarter of cotton or linen fabric.

Konrad has been sewing clothing on a sewing machine since fourth grade and has been immersed in historic costuming since 1986. She has taken multiple clothing workshops in Williamsburg, Va., and strives for accuracy of style and construction.

There is a fee for nonmembers. Guests may register on arrival.

LASN's 2026 theme is "Sewing Revolution," exploring revolutionary innovations and techniques.

LASN is a group for people who love to sew. Its members range from beginners to intermediate hobbyists to professional dressmakers. The group's main focus is fitting and construction skills related primarily to garment sewing. It meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of most months, with Zoom meetings held during the winter. Retreats, service projects, and a fabric swap are optional activities. For more information, contact lancastersews@gmail.com.
