Program to focus on Holtwood railroads

Solanco Historical Society will host a presentation on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the society's archives building, 1932 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville. The free program will begin at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Stanley White will present "Railroads of Holtwood Large and Small." White, for many years the president of the Solanco Historical Society and now a director, has spent many hours researching the railroads of Southern Lancaster County, as well as investigating the Holtwood Dam. He has scanned more than 6,000 pictures of these and closely related subjects for the historical society, and he has selected a few of them to share at the upcoming program. White will tell the story of the Columbia and Port Deposit branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Holtwood, as well as how rails helped in the construction of the dam and how the smaller company railroads were involved in the service of the Pennsylvania Water and Power Company.
