Program to focus on Wheatland grounds

LancasterHistory will host "Discovering a Gentleman's Farm: A History of the Wheatland Grounds" on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. The program will explore the history and functionality of the grounds where James Buchanan, the 15th president of the United States, lived as a gentleman farmer from 1848 to 1868.

Museum associate Stephanie Celiberti will lead the event, beginning with a 40-minute presentation in Ryder Hall. The presentation will provide an in-depth look at how the 22.5 acres of meadows, orchards, gardens, and green spaces of Wheatland were utilized during Buchanan's residence at the property. Following the presentation, attendees may ask questions and participate in an optional outdoor tour of the Wheatland grounds to see the areas discussed in the presentation.

To purchase tickets, visit http://www.lancasterhistory.org or call 717-392-4633. Tickets may not be available at the door, so advance registration is encouraged. The event is free of charge for LancasterHistory members and Friends of the Tanger Arboretum members, but they are encouraged to register in advance.
