Program to focus on working with slate

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, in collaboration with the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, will present a free program on Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. on the history of the slate industry in Pennsylvania and the United States and the uses of slate. The event will take place in the Yellow Barn, and attendees should follow the directional signs.

Don Robinson from the Old Line Museum in Delta will present on the history of the slate industry, historic uses of slate, the immigration of Welsh quarrymen, and contemporary preservation efforts of related slate industry structures in Coulsontown. The presentation will be followed by a demonstration on slate splitting and shaping, and attendees may have an opportunity to try shaping slate.

The program is free, and no reservations required.
