Quarryville Library posts activities

Quarryville Library Center, 357 Buck Road, has announced three upcoming events. Registration is required for all programs. Visit http://www.quarryvillelibrary.org or call 717-786-1336 to register.

Trivia Night will be held at the library on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. Leading the program will be Quiz Bowl veteran Phil Gruber. People may participate individually or as a team of up to four people. Prizes and refreshments will be included. The Trivia Night program is best for adults and high school age teens based on the challenge level of the questions.

The Quarryville Library will host "The Story of the Railroad Caboose," which will be presented by the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. Included will be a lecture and question-and-answer session about the history of the railroad caboose, which has a colorful and interesting history. The lecture will also provide information about why the caboose has become an icon of railroading by delving into its history and purpose.

On Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m., the Quarryville Library will welcome local author Nancy Groff, who will discuss her book, "Watt & Shand: East, West, Hame's Best." The book is not only a history of the Watt & Shand store in Lancaster, but also the story of Peter Watt, Groff's great-grandfather and one of the store's founders.
