Railroad Museum Schedules Camps

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 Gap Road, Strasburg, will offer its Barons & Builders day camps as well as virtual summer day camps. Spaces are limited.

A virtual summer camp titled "Behind the Scenes of Railroading" will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, to Thursday, June 30. Campers ages 9 to 12 will explore the museum's historic railroad equipment, learn about the museum's collections treasures, spend time with a model train expert from Lionel, create a guided craft project, and collaborate with other campers to solve challenges.

Barons & Builders Day Camp will be held in person from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, to Friday, July 15, for children ages 9 to 10. Campers will explore the museum's historic railroad equipment on special guided tours, learn about the museum's collections treasures, take a ride on the Strasburg Rail Road with a bagged lunch and a behind-the-scenes visit, receive a Lionel model boxcar for a guided craft project, spend time with a special guest talking about careers in railroading, and collaborate with other campers to solve challenges. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt.

A second session of Barons & Builders Day Camp will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, to Friday, July 29. This session is open to children ages 11 to 12.

A virtual camp titled "A Moveable Feast" will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to Thursday, Aug. 4, for campers ages 9 to 12. Campers will explore the museum's historic railroad equipment used in transporting food from the farm to the table and in railroad dining, view the railroad dining artifacts in the museum's collection, receive ingredients for a special at-home baking project with a recipe used on Pennsylvania Railroad dining cars and collaborate with other campers to solve challenges.
