Railroad museum plans holiday activities

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 Gap Road (Route 741), Strasburg, will host its annual "Home for the Holidays" event on Saturdays, Dec. 2 and 9. Attendees may spend time with family members and friends and enjoy the heritage of the nation's railroads amid the museum's festive holiday decorations.

Readings of "The Polar Express" will take place in the historic Reading Company multiple-unit car No. 800 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visitors can also send a telegram to the North Pole and even encounter Santa himself. On Dec. 9, attendees may enjoy seasonal music from Temple Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees may also sample cookies and hot chocolate, while supplies last, and the Whistle Stop Shop museum store will be open, offering holiday gifts.

Home for the Holidays is included in the regular museum admission. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Additionally, the museum will present the holiday film "The Polar Express" on a large screen among the historic trains on Saturday, Dec. 2. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. The family film is rated G and runs for 100 minutes.

Each ticket includes the movie showing in the museum's climate-controlled main exhibit hall, popcorn and hot chocolate. Proceeds of the event will benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
