Reading of new play set

The Lancaster Dramatists' Platform will present a reading of "The Onboarding Testimonial," a new play by award-winning playwright Bruce Walsh, on Saturday, July 27. The event will take place at 11 a.m. at the Franklin & Marshall College Philadelphia Alumni Writers House, 633 College Ave., Lancaster. It is co-sponsored by Creative Works of Lancaster.

The play, set in 2070, features a corporate human resources department that discovers that none of the current staff members is capable of creating personal statements without AI assistance. The department seeks to hire an elderly millennial to help.

Since Walsh received his Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from Indiana University Bloomington in 2017, his plays have been produced across the country, winning the Heideman Award, the Kennedy Center's Gary Garrison National Ten Minute Play Award, and the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Competition. Previously, he was a longtime arts reporter for the Philadelphia Metro and City Paper. He currently teaches literature, creative writing, and theater at Messiah University and Elizabethtown College. Walsh has been selected as a 2025 William Inge Center playwright in residence, giving him the opportunity to live in Inge's boyhood home for five weeks.

The reading is free and open to the public, with donations accepted to help cover expenses. For more information, email lancasterdramatists@gmail.com or visit http://www.lancasterdramatists.org.
