Resident writes book about illness, service dog

May 30 is World Multiple Sclerosis Day. Joan Patterson, a local resident living with multiple sclerosis, has written a book about her experiences with this incurable disease and her relationship with her service dog, Faith.

Patterson's book, a compilation of short narratives, is titled "A Matter of Faith: Surviving Life's Crises With Four Wheels, Four Paws, and a Loving God." When multiple sclerosis entered Patterson's life, she faltered in her joy, her faith, and the confidence to continue being an asset to society. Her relationship with her service dog, Faith, restored her independence and strengthened her relationship with God.

She noted that she wrote "A Matter of Faith" not only to tell the story of her relationship with Faith, but also for those who are frustrated with life and their current relationship with God.

Patterson holds an associate degree in Bible and a Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies of business and education. She taught in Christian schools for seven years and a business school for three years. Since partnering with Faith, she has represented Canine Partners for Life at various venues.

Patterson is available to speak about her book, her experiences living with multiple sclerosis, and her service dog. For more information, contact Patterson at 717-870-8999 or Joan@JoanPatterson.org.
