Rocking for a cause

Senior Commons at Powder Mill in York held a Rock-a-Thon on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, which kicked off the week of fundraising for the American Heart Association. Residents, staff members and visitors took their turns rocking for a cause from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with close to 40 participating in the event.

According to director of resident life Maureen Rittenhouse, the goal was to have at least one person rocking throughout the day.

During the Rock-a-Thon, participants could do chair exercises, read and share funny jokes and riddles and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

The Rock-a-Thon was one activity the senior living community uses to bring heart-health awareness and money, along with a chicken potpie dinner fundraiser, a bake sale, a valentine gift combo and an on-site presentation led by a representative from the American Heart Association.

Rittenhouse noted that the goal was to raise $1,000.
