Rotary Club honors students

Taelor Martin and Lindsey Mecouch, seniors at Solanco High School, have been selected as Lancaster South Rotary Club's Students of the Month for January. Taelor is the daughter of Brent and Tonya Martin of Quarryville. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA since third grade. She also received Academic Excellence Awards in social studies, Spanish, and chemistry; the AP Scholar with Distinction Award; and accolades at numerous academic competitions, including Odyssey of the Mind, where her team won the state championship and competed at the worldwide level. She is also active in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Link Crew. She participates in track and field, weightlifting and the theater program at Solanco.

In the community, Taelor was named the 2024 Miss Solanco. She is a volunteer at Quarryville Elementary, where she helps with translating the Spanish language. She helps students who need assistance in learning Spanish and is involved in making Solanco more inclusive for English language learners.

Following graduation, Taelor plans to attend a university to major in Spanish and biochemistry. She hopes to attend medical school with the goal of becoming a pediatric oncologist.

Lindsey is the daughter of Steven and Kathleen Mecouch of Peach Bottom. Lindsey has earned honor roll recognition each semester she has been in high school. She is captain of the girls' soccer team, was named defensive Most Valuable Player and was selected as a second team All-Star. She is a guidance intern and a member of Link Crew, and she received a positive principal award. Following graduation, Lindsey plans to attend a college or trade school.
