Rotary Club names Students of the Month

Paradise Rotary Club's Students of the Month for May are Sophia Calderone from Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) and Samantha Groff from Pequea Valley High School (PVHS). They are both juniors.

Sophia is the daughter of Tony and Katie Calderone of Ronks. She has been class secretary since 10th grade, and her other activities have included National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Student Council, Readers Helping Readers, IMPACT Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), the Women's Leadership Alliance, Mental Health Matters, and the Principal's Leadership Committee. She played soccer in ninth and 10th grades, tennis in 11th grade, and lacrosse in ninth through 11th grades, and she was the team captain for soccer and lacrosse in 10th grade. She was named Most Improved for soccer in ninth grade. Sophia has participated in the Discovering Paths program through the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. Her volunteer efforts have included Zion Lutheran Church youth group activities, youth lacrosse clinics, Bark For Life, making dog treats for Humane Pennsylvania's Lancaster Campus, Back-to-School Night at CVHS, and Apostles Community Preschool summer camp. She has also raised more than $500 for cancer research.

Samantha is the daughter of Scott and Jeanene Groff of Gap. She has been named to the distinguished honor roll, and she is president of the junior class and prom committee, treasurer and activities committee leader for Mini-THON, treasurer for Student Council and concert band, and a member of NHS, concert choir, and Chamber Singers. She has been involved in the PVHS musical and the Discovering Paths program. She earned the FFA Greenhand Degree, second place at states for poultry evaluation, and fourth place at the Big E for poultry evaluation.
