Rotary Club serves community, adds members

The Rotary Club of Paradise has been active and is looking to grow its community impact and membership.

The club's activities include honoring Students of the Month from Lancaster Mennonite, Pequea Valley, and Conestoga Valley high schools, which are within the bounds of the club's territory. The students are chosen for their outstanding leadership qualities. Each month, school administrators introduce the Students of the Month to the club, and the students speak about their accomplishments, volunteer work, activities, and future plans. Students answer questions from club members on a variety of topics, and parents and others also speak about the students.

In further support of education, the club sends two students each from the three aforementioned schools to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (RYLA) week at Messiah College; scholarships are also presented. RYLA participants receive leadership training, and they build relationships with fellow student leaders from across 46 clubs in Rotary District 7390.

The Paradise Rotary Club's recent mini service projects included work for The Factory Ministries, Power Packs Project, the Salvation Army, and the Conestoga Valley School District. The club is also in the process of completing a Rotary district grant that will provide books to prekindergarten students and their families through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library reading program in conjunction with the Pequea Valley School District.

The club also recently inducted new members. Among the new members is Brett Myers, a magician who was recognized in 2021 with the Merlin Award for best Magic and Variety Show by the International Magicians Society. Lancaster Mennonite's corporate membership added high school principal Kirk Benner, elementary principal Lindsay Carson, and superintendent Michael Badriaki. Conestoga Valley's corporate membership added high school principal Matthew Fox, chief financial and operations officer Adele Huntzinger, and superintendent Daniel Hartman. They join assistant to the superintendent Jill Koser, who was inducted in 2021.

The Rotary Club of Paradise is open to people who typically live or work east of Lancaster city from Greenfield through Pequea Valley. Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. at The Factory Ministries, 3293 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise. Meetings include lunch and a program.
