Rothsville Community Day Posted

The 20th annual Rothsville Community Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Forney Field, Church Street, Rothsville. The event will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the 5K Fun Run/Walk sponsored by WellSpan Family and Pediatric Medicine-Rothsville. Registration for the run will begin at 9 a.m. at Forney Field. Proceeds from the registration fee will benefit WellSpan's Prescription for Caring program, which provides assistance for people who cannot afford vital medications.

All other events will begin at 10 a.m. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., children can enjoy barrel train rides, games and other activities. The helicopter candy drop, sponsored by the Rothsville Ambulance Association, will take place at 10:45 a.m., and it is open to all children age 12 and under. Some activities have been omitted this year due to concerns about virus transmission.

At 1 p.m., ZooAmerica will present the show "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails," explaining the adaptations animals use for survival in the wild, including adaptations for defense, foraging, eating, swimming and escaping predators. It is designed to interest people of all ages.

Rothsville Community Day will also include the egg toss at 12:15 p.m. and a pie-eating contest at 2 p.m. There will be two age groups - children and adult - for each contest. Door prizes from local businesses will be drawn throughout the day. Times are approximate.

In conjunction with this event, nearby Millport Conservancy, 737 E. Millport Road, will have its nature trails open to the public from dawn until dusk. The event is planned and hosted by area churches: Jerusalem Lutheran, Millport Mennonite, Salem United Methodist and St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational in conjunction with the Rothsville Fire Company and the Rothsville Ambulance Association. Support is also provided by many local businesses.
