Runners Gather For Trail Race

The eighth annual Dire Wolf Trail Race took place on Oct. 22, offering trail runners of all abilities a choice of a 5- or 10-mile trail race through Wolf's Hollow County Park in Atglen. The scenic course traveled through the woods and fields of the park and included a creek crossing, rolling hills and a 2-mile climb to the finish.

The race is held every year and is one of the largest fundraisers for the Octorara High School Cross Country and Track and Field Team Booster Club; all proceeds from the race go directly to the booster club. Students representing the booster club help with aid stations along the course as well as direct runners along the course. This year's event raised over $1,500 for the booster club.

This year, the overall winners for the 10-mile race were Ryan Gehman, 30, with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 57 seconds, and Ashley Jackson, 24, with a time of 1:25:48. The winners of the 5-mile race were Nick Murdock, 38, with a time of 42 minutes, 4 seconds, and Bonnie Stoeckle, 66, with a time of 42:49.

The Dire Wolf Trail Race is directed by Jason Logue, president of Every Mountain Outdoors and owner of RunPA.org.
